Hundreds of different over the counter (OTC) meds for dogs are available on the international market of veterinary products. Pet meds are available for sale without prescription and they are used in treatment of different groups of diseases in dogs.

OTC meds for dogs can be prescribed for:

  • Therapy of lung disease (pneumonia, tonsillitis, bronchitis, tracheitis, pharyngitis, pleurisy);

Healing of wounds, scratches, skin ulcers, soft tissues injuries and burns.

OTC meds for dogs can be included into different pharmaceutical groups. To cure the infectious and noninfectious diseases in dogs, medications containing hormonal, antibacterial, anthelmintic, bacteriostatic or antifungal agents are used.

People can use OTC meds for dogs containing Dichlorophene for the treatment of pets’ diseases caused by microbial infection. Dog owners are familiar with these drugs under the trade names: Vermiplex, Happy Jack, Anaplex and Difolin.

If a pet is infected with parasitic worms, the veterinarian physician may advise using some OTC meds for dogs, containing anthelmintic agents: Fenbendazole, Piperazine, Praziquantel or Pyrantel. OTC anti-worm meds for dogs are sold under the brand names – Nemex, RFD, Droncit, Pulvex, Sergeants, Panacure, Safe-Guard, Beaphar, Bob Martin and Granofen.

However, Imidacloprid and Nitenpyram are the two most effective pet meds to control fleas in dogs. These OTC meds for dogs are sold at pharmacies under the trademarks Advantus, Advantix, Advocate, Capstar and Johnson’s 4Fleas.

The most common pathologies in dogs are the diseases, caused or complicated by bacterial infection.

  • Erythromycin (Gallimycin)

  • Nitrofurazone (NFZ, Fura, Furaderm)
  • Neomycin (Neomix, 3-Biotic, BNP, Derma-4)
  • Gentamicin (Gentocin, Clinagel-Vet, Easotic, Tiacil)
  • Lincomycin (Lincocin, Lincomix, Lincoject, Linco-Spectin)
  • Chlorhexidine Acetate (Nolvasan, Privasan, Exidine, Hibitane, Adaxio, Malaseb, Microbex, Pyoderm)
  • Penicillin G Procaine – (Bonaid & Zinc Bacitracin & Penicillin, Bonaid & Penicillin, CSP)
  • Furazolidone (Furox)
